Statement on Mayor’s Executive Budget for Parks

New Yorkers for Parks (NY4P) issued the following statement in response to the just released FY21 Executive Budget proposal for the NYC Parks Department

“These are extremely tough and trying times for the City and all New Yorkers.  But it is also a time when the need for parks is greater than ever. Our parks offer residents an opportunity to get outdoors, a chance to get some much-needed exercise, and the ability to get away from the chaos and stress of living during these times.

“In the months ahead - as playgrounds, pools, summer camps, league sports and maybe even beaches are shut down - children, families and individuals will need our parks even more.  And while the need is city-wide, it is especially acute in underserved areas that have been hardest hit by COVID19.

“That’s why we are calling on the Mayor and City Council to ensure we have the staffing and funding to ensure all our parks and open spaces are clean, properly maintained and safe for all New Yorkers.”
