STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- New Yorkers for Parks (NY4P) is holding a free civic engagement training and networking session for Staten Islanders interesting in improving and protecting their local parks.

NY4P: Boro x Boro will take place on Thursday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, Livingston.

The event will give participants the opportunity to discuss the main issues affecting their parks, playgrounds, community gardens and other open spaces, and identify goals for the upcoming year.

"Parks are necessary infrastructure, just as important as our roads and sewers. The input that participants share will ensure that our work addresses the needs of their borough," said Lynn Kelly, executive director of NY4P and former president and CEO of Snug Harbor. "We will be pushing for a parks budget that benefits all New Yorkers, and making sure that open space is a key part of the conversation in the upcoming elections."

Check-in for the NY4P: Boro x Boro event will begin at 6 p.m., and light refreshments will be served.

NY4P, which will be holding Boro x Boro events throughout the city this winter, is a citywide independent organization that champions quality parks and open space in all neighborhoods across the city.
