New Yorkers for Parks works to ensure greener, safer, cleaner parks in all five boroughs of New York City with our planning and community design programs. NY4P’s Community Design Program offers pro-bono design assistance to groups working to create new parkland or improve existing open space in their communities.Current Community Design Project: Street-End Pocket Park at the End of Vernon Blvd. in QueensNewtown Creek is an active industrial waterway that divides the westernmost portions of Queens and Brooklyn. The proposed site, at the end of Vernon Boulevard, is just one of many improvement projects along the creek—yet the only project on the Queens side—and will introduce approximately 5,000 square feet of green space to an area dominated by industry. Community Design NewsThe Department of City Planning, Transportation Division has recently completed its final report for the Bronx Harlem River Waterfront Bicycle and Pedestrian Study. The report includes recommendations for improved bicycle and pedestrian access to an area near the Harlem River waterfront in the southwest Bronx. The report can be viewed and downloaded here.
