New Yorkers for Parks Benefit Gala

On Wednesday, September 30th, New Yorkers for Parks will honor the “Women of Parks” who have shown extraordinary commitment to help beautify, create and protect New York City’s parks and open spaces. This esteemed group of women has created a lasting legacy through their tireless efforts, and the Gala will celebrate the many contributions these women have made to making New York City greener.

This year’s honorees are Ann L. Buttenwieser, the “Floating Pool Lady,” Bette Midler, founder of the New York Restoration Project, Lynden B. Miller, public garden designer, Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, President of the Foundation for Landscape Studies, and Tupper Thomas, President of the Prospect Park Alliance.

Event proceeds allow New Yorkers for Parks to continue its efforts to ensure that all New Yorkers enjoy a world-class parks system.

Read more about the fabulous work and organizations that these women lead in order make New York City’s parks safe, clean and green!

No, really. It's the least we could do.

  • A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against plans to put a private development in the proposed Brooklyn Bridge Park, calling the plan "not unreasonable." [NYT]
  • Did anyone catch that Jonathan Safran Foer op-ed about dogs and off leash hours that ran a few days ago in the Times? Don't worry. There are no paragraphs done completely in italics or presented as diary entries. [NYT]
  • A "big bucks developer" (according to the Daily News... we might have gone with another adjective that starts with an 'e,' ends with an "l," and has a  "v" and and "i" in the middle, but hey, that's just us) has "bought up the gritty Brooklyn amusement park" better known as Astroland. As you can see, we're none to happy about it and happened to love it the way it was, rickety rides and all. [NYDN]

That's all, really. It's pretty amazing no one (not even his plane!) was injured.
