Parks Budget
A front-page story page in the October 5, 1945 New York Times announced the Park Association of New York City’s request of each Mayoral candidate, through a five-point pledge, to improve the parks system through more adequate funding.
Today, our name is different, but NY4P continues to lobby for a better-funded parks system. Our current work includes analyzing the City’s budget and public-private partnerships to ensure adequate, equitable and transparent funding of the entire parks system. Additionally, building upon our 2010 survey of alternative revenue strategies, we are exploring funding mechanisms being employed for the creation and maintenance of parks in New York and elsewhere to inform recommendations for maximizing the financial viability of the city’s 5,000 parks properties while preserving their character.
